Kursk Video

January 2008

“Day after day, nearly all the TV channels sent the same handful of images over and over of the stricken Kursk submarine. Every 30 minutes or less the world was confronted with the tragedy over the screen, with or without news, via replay.”

This video, as simple as it might appear on first sight, is merely a small part of a bigger idea, which I developped alongside a good friend of mine, Stevenfloor. I am very thankful that he offered to make this video for the show out of a simple slideshow he got from me and some difficult instructions. Stevenfloor was especially great in getting that kind of sound-noise I was looking for. I am extremely thankful for his help, knowledge and time!
As I mentioned, this video is just a very downsized version of what could have been shown. The full idea would have overtaken the room – and not only the room. So we are waiting for the next opportunity to bring it to life.

These images are NOT edited! The look&feel is the result of a broken tv-set combined with file-type changes for the video-format. It was a conscious decision not to correct the colours but to leave them as given.

This video is currently being shown at the Galerie Bernd Slutzky in Frankfurt in a sightly different constellation until March 2008.
“Kursk” is a non-profit project.
